Redefining Gender Roles
From Dictionary.com's word of the day for today:
virago: an ill-tempered, overbearing woman; also, a woman of great strength and courage.Talk about conflicting definitions. This really makes you consider how language gives us insights into how we define gender roles.
I think I can use it in a sentence:
Mother nature, a vicious virago, punished us yesterday with an early snow -- man did that suck!
2 Comments:
virago = Margaret Thatcher, then?
If only I knew more about British politics than Peter Griffin's Winston Churchill impression.
